| March 2, 2006 Issue 0003, Wow, It looks like Brown may have been right? |
| Aren't you curious as to what is going to be on this side of the page in the future? |
| New video from AP shows Brown as competent and Bush and Chertoff as inept. Is Brown in the clear? |
| Link to AP article on the video and a link to the video itself. I may have to offer Brown an apology for all the horse-lawyer comments and jokes I've made about him these last six months. Excerpt: WASHINGTON (AP) -- In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage. Bush didn't ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared." The footage - along with seven days of transcripts of briefings obtained by The Associated Press - show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster. Is it me or does that, "Bush didn't ask a single question" part sound a little like Judge Thomas on the Supreme Court? Four days after the storm Bush is quoted as saying, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." When infact the video of the teleconference celary shows experts talking about the possibility of levee failure. Sort of like when Condoleezza Rice called the August 6th, 2001 memo warning of an impending attack from al Qaeda a "historical document." |

| India! Bush found himself in India on Wednesday |

| Where the population either didn't care or marched calling for his death. Wow that is a big change from when Clinton visited India in 2000 and was showered with flower petals, huh? |

| If Bush steps out of his bullet-proof Suburban when not inside a parking garage I will be impressed. That's what you get when you have basically declared war on poor Muslims around the world (we do business with the rich ones) and you visit the second largest Muslim country in the world, India. The times, they are a changin'. |

| Hey, and after India where is Bush going to next? |

| Houston - Found your site from Bartcop. Good start; love your viewpoint! If you do this on a regular basis, you'll be as popular as Bart! (Maybe that's a good thing?) RLR |
| Cool, huh? Thank you, RLR, for reading and responding. I just realized I should put things in here to remind people to contact me about whatever; story ideas, suggestions, critiques, whatever... Bartcop rules and he knows I have all the love and admiration in the world for him. When I get a few more dollars together I want to actually give it to him for being there almost everyday posting and scouring the news sites. I am just hoping he does another Bartfest this summer. It has been almost 4 years since the last one and I had a blast. Bart, you're awesome. Everyone go to his site right now: bartcop.com. If you have any comments of any kind just send them to me immediately, without delay. houstonwade@houstonwade.com |

| The Senate hates America as much as ever, moves to renew "Patriot" Act |
| Hey, US Senators, fuck you guys. Bush doesn't even need the PATRIOT Act because he already is getting away with warrant-less wiretapping. We made it 225 years as a country with out a stupid act granting huge invasions of privacy by the US government. Is our foundation in Democracy that weak that we have to do this? At least a little Compromise is coming out of this. Maybe someday it will get compromised into oblivion... After the invasion by the ruling Chinese Empire in 2062. |

| Saddam countered charges of mass-murder by informing the court Wednesday that he legally had a responsibility to crush his opposition. The US was so retarded for not wanting to bring this guy to the World Court at the Hague. Stupid, stupid USA. Saddam and his team are making an absolute embarrassment out of this court. Saddam might be evil but he is incredibly smart and is outwitting everyone involved. He seamlessly and without fail still refers to himself as the president of Iraq, judges have quit, the trial has been halted several times, even the beard and snappy suit works. Will this trial ever reach a point where a verdict can be reached? What happens when civil war overtakes the country like it is starting to? A court-case is not going to be high on the list of priorities once everybody is committing mass-murder. |
| Speaking of "civil war"... |
| Evictions May Foreshadow Iraq Civil War |
| Excerpt: BAGHDAD, Iraq — The sectarian cleansing that drove 68-year-old Abbas al-Saiedi from his home may be as alarming a sign of a country on the brink of civil war as the killings that have swept Iraq in the past week. Masked gunmen carrying rocket-propelled grenade launchers and automatic rifles kicked down the gate at his house, fired into the air and told the Shiite he had 48 hours to get his family out of the predominantly Sunni neighborhood in west Baghdad. Iraq is so fucked at this point. All the major generals and military planners of this war told Bush, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld that they needed at least a same-sized force as the first Gulf War (600,000 personel) if not more. What did they get? 135,000 soldiers; half of whom are weekend warriors, bankers, students, convenience store clerks, etc... Same thing is happening in Afghanistan where we still only control a third of the country. Time and time again we are confronted with the results of poor decision-making by our elected leaders. There is no way the Republicans are going to keep congress come this Fall. |
| Afghanistan has one natural resource, Bush wants it gone |
| Afghanistan is controlled by three major groups. The US, the Taliban (yes, still) and the warlords. The warlords are fickle and can change sides at the drop of a hat. What's the hat? Opium production. It is the only money maker the country has until they can watch natural gas flow from Turkmenistan to Pakistan. When that happens there will be plenty of jobs to repair the sabotaged line on a daily basis. It seems that Bush wants to accelerate the pipeline-sabotage option just a bit and is cracking down on the warlords' bread and butter, poppy flowers. I guess we will find out how this all turns out, huh? |
| Remember when Bush said that we should use Nigerian troops as peace keepers in Africa during the 2000 debates? |
| When are they going to start keeping the peace in Nigeria? At least they have released some hostages and no one is dead yet. Nigeria has been fighting its own civil war off and on since the nation's inception. Add to this a debilitating AIDS epidemic and a growing, angry, fundamentalist Muslim population in the north that wants more control... How is Nigeria ever going to have surplus resources to help its neighbors? |
| Hey, check it out. Bush cares about bin Laden again! |
| Funny that's not what he said in 2002: "I don’t know where he is. Nor — you know, I just don’t spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you. I....I truly am not that concerned about him." -President Bush So now it's back to tie up loose ends, Mr President? Excerpt: KABUL, Afghanistan - In a surprise visit under extraordinary security, President Bush expressed unwavering confidence Wednesday that Osama bin Laden will be captured despite years of fruitless manhunts for the elusive terrorist leader who ran training camps in Afghanistan and plotted the deadly attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Bush ordered Air Force One, on a flight to India, to make a secret detour to this war- scarred country to show U.S. support for the fledgling democracy led by President Hamid Karzai, whose authority has been weakened by suicide bombings and rising violence by insurgents. There are more than 18,000 U.S. forces in Afghanistan, and Bush said their mission was "to help this new democracy not only survive but to flourish." This is pathetic. We should have accomplished this 4 years ago instead of getting distracted by poorly planning the current disaster in Iraq. Yawn. Lip Service. |

The Honda Civic is the magazine's top small sedan, while the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is the top mid-sized sport utility vehicle, according to results released Wednesday. Vehicles from Nissan Motor Co. and Subaru, a division of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., round out the top picks in 10 categories. When are US-based companies going to learn that making piles o' crap just doesn't cut it any more? |

| Pearl Jam announces that they are releasing a new studio album, maybe this time it won't suck |
| I wasted $17 on that piece of shit "Riot Act" and was soooooo booooooored listening to it. How come old Pearl Jam had intensity in their studio albums and turned into old men around 1996? Their live shows still have fire--Vedder still yells and screams in those--but the studio shit is so slow and boring. Eddie Vedder sounds like he's on valium or something during the songs. Anyway, it is coming out in May and we should start hearing songs from it on the radio next week. |
