				Proud of What?

		HILO - The United States, in particular the President and his administration, lied and cheated in order to start a war with Iraq.  Why would anyone want to lie so that they could START a war?  We are not the Nazis (the Nazis faked a Polish invasion of a disputed territory in Germany so the German people would have a reason to support a German invasion of Poland, thus WWII).  Due to the administration's shortcomings with the truth and their complete bungling of the after-war situation in Iraq, and subsequent denial that there even is a problem with security (2 soldiers a day are dying over there), we have lost our right to make decisions regarding the lives of the Iraqi people and even our own soldiers.   The UN, Hans Blix, Scott Ritter, France, Germany and everyone else who was against the war and its shaky evidence supporting it from the get-go was and is right.  I think they have earned a turn to tell us how to run things over there;but, because we screwed up we should be forced to do the dirty work of policing the country only without the decision making ability we have abused up until now.  Why should France, Germany or Canada have to lose soldiers to clean up our mess?  The United States should take responsibility for once.    The President knowingly lied to Congress, the UN and most importantly, pathologically lied to the American people time, after time, after time;and for what?  As near as I can tell it must be for his and his cronies' financial gain.  When I make this claim people get offended.  They tell me, "the president would never do something like that, he's the president."  What is that supposed to mean?  Do you think that a man who lies about something so important as the reason we NEED to go to war is not beyond doing so to line his and his minions' pockets?     The president intentionally created a situation in the Middle East by using OUR State Department to provide a backward foreign policy initiative and by undermining the diplomatic efforts of respected State Department employees (Ambassador Wilson and his wife come to mind) to fulfill his own greedy ambitions.   The man is a menace and a threat to the American people and a danger to the world.  He and his ilk will continue to stoop lower and lower, they will continue to lie in order to cover their previous lies, they will continue to put our diligent intelligence gatherers at risk by exposing them when they are not willing to lie to the American people, they will do this and more just to suit their lust for wealth and power.   When characters like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity made these claims about then President Clinton we had $100 million dollars of investigations on him and not one, not one allegation was found to be true.   White Water, Filegate, Travelgate, etc...  And now that we have a president who IS committing illegal acts, in some cases acts of treason, and there is more than ample evidence of such (Bush is on tape when he or Colon Powell, or Condi Rice, or Donald Rumsfeld, or Dick Cheney, or Ari Fleischer, ad nauseam, made their false claims as to the nature of Iraq's weapons programs and that nation's threat to the American People (side note:  a text version of Bush's State of the Union address can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/jacksquat4u/SotU.html with a line for line rebuttal by yours truly)) and no one raises an eyebrow.  We are a nation not full of sheep like some cynics claim, but a nation full of pussies; and I am ashamed of us all.     From almost the inception of this century the term "proud to be an American" has begun to mean less and less to me.  That is not right.
